Eli Lilly Case Study

Eli Lilly and Company is a leading, innovation-driven corporation committed to developing a growing portfolio of best-in-class and first-in-class pharmaceutical products that help people live longer, healthier and more active lives. Lilly products treat depression, schizophrenia, attention-deficit, hyperactivity disorder, diabetes, osteoporosis and many other conditions. They are committed to providing answers that matter - through medicines and information - for some of the world's most urgent medical needs.

For eight years Leasedrive Velo has been working in close partnership with Eli Lilly, the global pharmaceutical manufacturer.

According to David Chandler, HR & Benefits Manager, "In the spirit of a true partnership, as the needs of Lilly have grown Leasedrive Velo has developed the services and solutions to meet them.

What I particularly like about Leasedrive Velo is that they are very flexible," said David. "They will, however, challenge our requests when we ask for something that is not in our best interests."

At Lilly, David's role is to interpret the policy, manage supplier performance across a number of HR disciplines (not just cars) and develop the fleet operation strategically by looking at areas that could bring benefit to Lilly in the future.

"I only ever have driver contact when there is a problem or issue, and considering I am involved in very few issues it is clear that Leasedrive Velo is managing our fleet well.

To enable me to do my day job I have to rely on them to do theirs," he said.

"When we do identify an issue they help us to embed solutions that mean we do not have to revisit the same issue again.

Ask anyone responsible for running a major fleet and they will tell you that no news is good news and when I don't get drivers coming to me with problems I know everything is working smoothly.

Leasedrive Velo has excellent levels of technology, which means we can build up selections of cars on-line, and their electronic billing gives us big time savings in our financial department compared with our old manual invoice entry process.

Our KPI's also show that there is a very high compliance of drivers following our procedures regarding servicing and repair and this saves us a lot of money.

Their account management team has been highly involved in helping us look at some key areas, such as fuel expenditure. In this instance they looked carefully at the fuel issue by benchmarking us against other similar fleets and that has added value to their support of Lilly."

With 200 field-based company car drivers, a further 350 that sit within the office-based car scheme, and a cash-out scheme, Lilly's requirements are both demanding and varied.

Lilly is also an organisation which prides itself on its ethics and the values that it stands for.

"Finding the right relationship is important to us," summarised David, "and I'm sure Leasedrive Velo see us as a fair, but strong, business partner." Reassurance that things will be done in the right way.
