As the issue of climate change becomes increasingly critical and high profile, companies are looking for ways to significantly reduce their CO2 emissions as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Vehicle fleets that run on fossil fuels are a major contributor to these emissions producing up to 20% of a company's total CO2 output with each car producing roughly its own weight in CO2 each year.

In order to provide an immediate solution to this problem, Leasedrive Velo works in partnership with leading climate change business, The CarbonNeutral Company (TCNC).

Reducing CO2 to net zero (CarbonNeutral)

A long-term method of reducing your company's CO2 emissions is to enforce a fleet policy that provides hybrid vehicles only. Leasedrive Velo's solution aims to bridge the gap whilst implementing this method with an immediate and effective solution of 'offsetting your emissions'.

For every 1 tonne of CO2 a vehicle produces, you can pay for one tonne of CO2 to be saved by sponsoring Carbon Neutral projects throughout the world. When you 'offset' 100% of your vehicle's emissions, your fleet is CarbonNeutral.

Leasedrive Velo's online vehicle management system Drive:Manager™ allows clients to measure and reduce to 'net zero' the amount of CO2 emissions associated with their fleet.

TCNC has been running successful pilot schemes for companies throughout the UK with costs of CarbonNeutral driving being covered by the corporate client and/or the employees. On average there has been a 24%+ take up by employees paying for CarbonNeutral driving themselves.

System

Carbon:Manager™ is integrated within Leasedrive Velo's online vehicle management system Drive:Manager™. It allows fleet managers (and/or drivers) to calculate their CO2 emissions by entering their vehicle details and annual mileage. They are then given the option to pay to 'offset' their CO2 emissions. The offset is calculated on a 'per tonne' basis and costs between £3 and £8 per month.

The CarbonNeutral Company organises 'offsets' for Leasedrive Velo and its clients and can also provide certificates and other collateral to register CarbonNeutral driving. Examples of offset projects include technology transfers (which replace fossil fuel based energy with solar energy, thus reducing CO2) and forestry projects (where tree plantations literally soak up CO2 directly from the atmosphere).
